Our Story

Reconstruction of a Survivor is a non-profit breast cancer organization that sponsors services for women diagnosed with breast cancer and for the survivors who walk beside them. We take special pride in our support groups, where participants share and learn, find hope, discover new belief, and begin the healing that leads to a brighter future.

At Reconstruction of a Survivor, we believe that healing goes beyond the hospital. We provide vital emotional, educational, and peer support to breast cancer survivors at every stage of their journey.

Reconstruction Of A Survivor’s vision is that all women diagnosed with breast cancer experience a better quality of life after their diagnosis.

Founder

Dr Jennie Bennett

Reconstruction of a Survivor was founded in 2007 by Dr. Jennie Bennett, a breast cancer survivor, as a single support group in Houston. What began around one table has grown into a far-reaching community, serving thousands through education, counseling, and advocacy — yet its purpose has never changed: to walk with each woman until she is recalled to life.

“I believed that the spirit comes to teach us all things we need to know. I felt that a force bigger than me could heal me. A force that would connect me to what I believed. So, I prayed, trusted, and stood on the side of believing that I would be whole; I would have balance in my life; and I would be able to create new life for others and not experience fear.”
